Raw Peridotite Igneous Rock Hand Sample, Approx 3 inch

This 3-inch hand sample of raw peridotite is an iron-rich ultramafic igneous rock with a chemistry suggesting genesis from deep within the crust, possibly as deep as the mantle. The large crystals indicate slow cooling within a magma chamber. This specimen is useful for comparisons with other igneous rocks and as part of lessons on Bowen's reaction series. Each specimen is selected and hand-processed by a geologist, individually packaged in a transparent bag with a label and barcode for easy identification.
