STEM Investigations Design a Water Filter Kit for 15 Groups

This STEM Investigations kit is a classroom activity designed to teach students about water filtration systems. Students learn how water treatment facilities create safe drinking water, and then design, engineer, and test their own filtration system using the provided materials. The kit includes enough supplies for 15 groups of students. The kit contains 1500 g of fine sand, 1500 g of gravel, 300 g of activated charcoal, 5 mL of green food coloring, 25 mL of white vinegar, 30 coffee filters, a bag of cotton balls, and 75 plastic cups. Instructions and safety data sheets are included. This hands-on activity allows students to explore water treatment principles by building and evaluating functional filtration systems using real filtering media.
