This electrically maintained tuning fork is driven by an electromagnet to sustain a frequency of approximately 80 Hz. One prong includes a captive knurled thumbscrew for performing Melde's experiment, and universal binding posts accept 2–6 V DC from an external source.
The fork can be used to demonstrate relationships between frequency, string length, tension, and wave velocity, making it a versatile tool for wave and acoustics experiments in the physics classroom.
