Chemistry lab supplies — frequently asked questions
What chemistry lab supplies do I need to set up a school chemistry lab?
A standard school chemistry lab needs five categories of supplies: reagents (acids, bases, indicators, and metal salts in lab or ACS grade), borosilicate glassware (beakers, Erlenmeyer flasks, graduated cylinders, and test tubes), plasticware (wash bottles and funnels), bench equipment (Bunsen burners or hot plates, ring stands, clamps, and test tube racks), and safety gear (chemical splash goggles, gloves, and a goggle sanitizer). The Lab Stockroom carries all five categories and can fulfill a complete lab setup from a single order with same or next-day shipping on in-stock items.
Do you sell ACS-grade chemicals?
Yes. The Lab Stockroom carries both ACS-grade and lab-grade reagents, with the grade listed in each product's specifications. ACS grade meets the purity requirements of the American Chemical Society and is used in analytical chemistry, research labs, and quality control work. Lab grade is suitable for classroom demonstrations, teaching labs, and routine school chemistry. If you're not sure which grade you need, ACS is the safer choice for research applications and lab grade is the safer choice for cost-conscious teaching labs.
What's the difference between borosilicate 3.3 glass and standard lab glass?
Borosilicate 3.3 glass is the international standard for chemistry glassware. It has a low thermal expansion coefficient (3.3 × 10−6 K−1), which means it resists cracking when heated quickly or exposed to temperature shock, and it offers excellent chemical resistance to acids, bases, and organic solvents. Standard soda-lime glass is fine for storage but not for direct heating, strong reagents, or precision measurement. The chemistry glassware on this page is borosilicate 3.3 unless the product page states otherwise.
Can schools and universities order chemistry supplies with a purchase order?
Yes. The Lab Stockroom accepts purchase orders from K–12 schools and districts, colleges and universities, hospitals, research institutions, and government agencies. You can submit a purchase order by emailing service@thelabstockroom.com or by calling (585) 360-2295 during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST. For B2B accounts placing recurring orders, we can also set up account-based pricing and reorder workflows.
How quickly do chemistry supplies ship?
In-stock chemistry supplies ship the same or next business day from our Rochester, NY warehouse. Most domestic orders arrive within 2–5 business days depending on destination and carrier. Hazardous chemicals require ground shipping and may have additional handling requirements; the product page for each chemical lists any shipping restrictions. If a back-to-school deadline or grant-cycle date is driving your order, call or email us before purchasing and we can confirm availability and lead time.
Do you ship hazardous chemicals?
Yes, within applicable shipping regulations. Hazardous chemicals such as corrosives, flammables, and oxidizers ship by ground only, and some require an adult signature on delivery. Certain restricted chemicals cannot ship to residential addresses. School, college, and institutional shipping addresses are the most straightforward; for personal or hobby use, check the product page for any restrictions or contact us before ordering.
What chemistry equipment is required for AP Chemistry?
AP Chemistry labs typically require quantitative glassware (volumetric flasks, burettes, graduated cylinders, and pipettes for accurate volume measurement), a balance, pH meters or test strips, a hot plate or Bunsen burner setup, and the reagents used in the College Board's recommended labs — acids and bases for titration, copper compounds, indicators, and standard solutions. The Lab Stockroom's chemistry catalog includes the items most commonly purchased for AP Chemistry programs, and our team can help match a supply list to a specific course outline.
