Gaussian Gun with 4 Magnets and 10 Steel Spheres

The Eisco Labs Gaussian Gun Kit demonstrates the surprising acceleration possible when magnetic potential energy is converted into kinetic energy. A slow-rolling steel ball impacts a chain of magnets and steel spheres on a low-friction track, and the released sphere on the far side launches at 3–4 times the original speed — a vivid illustration of energy conservation, momentum, and Newton's third law. The kit includes a 27.5"-long, 1.75"-tall linear rail with four neodymium magnets in adjustable holders (allowing students to reposition and reverse polarity), and ten 3/4" steel balls. The open-end rail also serves as a fun ball launcher for other physics experiments and demonstrations.
