Product Description

This 1000mL volumetric flask is made from borosilicate glass, fitted with a No. 22 solid glass stopper, and complies with ASTM E288 at Class A accuracy with a tolerance of ±0.300mL. It is calibrated to contain. Calibrated to contain means the single graduation ring marks the volume the flask holds rather than the volume it delivers when poured, since some liquid always remains on the wall. A volumetric flask is therefore used to prepare a solution of known concentration rather than to dispense one. The long narrow neck supports the stated tolerance, since a small error in reading the meniscus corresponds to a very small volume error in a narrow bore. The ground glass stopper seals the flask for inversion during mixing and for short-term storage of a prepared standard. The flask stands 12.5 inches tall on a 3.5 inch flat base. Volumetric glassware should not be heated, since thermal cycling shifts calibration.
