G' by Free Fall Apparatus

This 'g' by free fall apparatus determines the gravitational acceleration (g) using the free fall method. The apparatus consists of an electromagnet housed in a plastic molded case with 4mm socket connections to energize the magnet and another pair of sockets to connect to a timer. A heavy steel sphere and a platform unit complete the system. When the electromagnet is energized, the metal sphere is held in place. When power is switched off, the sphere falls and activates the timer. When the sphere strikes the platform, a microswitch stops the timer, allowing calculation of fall time and gravitational acceleration. For use with a compatible timer (LBTM, sold separately) and a stand and rod assembly (STD-RD, sold separately). Suitable for physics classrooms studying gravity and kinematics.
