Garnet Schist Specimen

This raw garnet schist specimen is a metamorphic rock sample measuring approximately 1 inch, individually selected and hand-processed by a geologist. Garnet schist has undergone moderate levels of metamorphic alteration, making it useful for demonstrating the effects of heat and pressure on mineral composition and rock texture. Schist is characterized by visible foliation, where platy minerals are aligned in parallel layers. The presence of garnet porphyroblasts provides an additional point of study for metamorphic mineral growth.
