Optical Calcite Iceland Spar Specimen, 2-2.5 inch

This single piece of optical calcite (Iceland Spar) measures approximately 2 to 2.5 inches long and weighs between 2 and 4 ounces. The unique crystal structure of calcite is birefringent, splitting and transmitting beams of light to display two of the same image—especially striking with a laser pointer. Each specimen exhibits characteristic rhombohedral cleavage. Samples vary naturally and may not be identical to those pictured. Suitable for geology classrooms studying mineral hardness, cleavage, effervescence, and optical properties.
