This raw scoria hand sample measures approximately 3 inches in length, varying slightly in shape, size, and color. Scoria forms as spatter from bubbly mafic lava is thrown into the air and cooled quickly, with rapid crystallization trapping large air pockets that give samples a jagged, sharp appearance.
Each specimen is hand-selected and processed by a geologist in Victor, NY, individually packaged in a transparent labeled and barcoded bag. Suitable for geology classrooms studying pyroclastic material and igneous rock classification.
