1% Phenolphthalein Solution, 1000mL - The Curated Chemical Collection

This 1 liter bottle contains phenolphthalein solution at 1% concentration. Phenolphthalein is an acid-base indicator that is colorless in acidic solution and turns pink between roughly pH 8.2 and 10. The transition is sharp enough that a single drop of titrant can carry a flask from clear to pink, which suits it to strong acid and strong base titrations where the pH curve rises steeply through that range. An abrupt endpoint is easier to identify consistently than a gradual color shift. Phenolphthalein also appears as a component of universal indicator solutions, contributing the alkaline end of the color range. Since the indicator is used a few drops at a time, a 1 liter bottle covers many titrations. Product instructions and safe handling and storage information are printed directly on the bottle, and a Safety Data Sheet is available on request. The chemical is manufactured in the United States and intended for laboratory use only, not for drug, food, or household use. It should be kept out of reach of children.
