Genetics of Blood Types Kit

The Genetics of Blood Types Kit from Innovating Science is designed to demonstrate how genetics determine blood type and to develop student understanding of inheritance patterns. The featured activity involves determining the blood type of four unknown samples and using the results to assist in the resolution of a fictional paternity dispute. The kit uses simulated blood samples for realistic replication of the blood typing procedure while ensuring safe classroom use. Materials are provided for 10 groups of students and include four simulated blood samples (mother, child, sample X, sample Y), one bottle each of simulated anti-A and anti-B serums, and 40 blood typing trays. A teacher's manual, student study guide copymasters, and a safety data sheet packet are also included. The kit is suitable for ages 13 and older with adult supervision. For laboratory use only.
