STEM Investigations Engineer Your Own Enteric Coating Kit for 15 Groups

This STEM investigation kit allows students to explore enteric coatings and their behavior in different regions of the digestive system. Students learn the basic structures and pathway of the digestive tract, investigate how the properties of various enteric coatings respond to stomach and small intestine conditions, and then engineer a simulated coating suited to specific pharmaceutical needs. The kit was designed and written by a biomedical engineer and contains enough material for 15 groups of students. It includes a teacher's manual and student study guide. The activities align with Next Generation Science Standards, covering disciplinary core ideas in engineering design and life science, and engage students in modeling, data analysis, and evidence-based argumentation.
