AP Biology Investigation #11 Transpiration Kit for 8 Groups

This AP Biology Investigation #11 - Transpiration kit allows students to study transpiration and its role in water and nutrient movement in plants. Students use a potometer to examine the rate of transpiration in bean seedlings under select environmental conditions, prepare a stomatal peel to examine stomatal density, and design their own experiment to alter environmental conditions and observe effects. Materials sufficient for 8 groups (32 students). Meets AP Science Practices 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and Big Idea 4. The kit includes 8 each of 12-inch clear tubing, tubing clamps, 1mL pipettes, 10mL dispensers, and 6-cell planting trays, plus 1 bag of potting soil, bean seeds, petroleum jelly, nail polish, and microscope slides. Required materials not included: calculators, microscopes, distilled water, cellophane tape, razor blades, lab stands, light source, trays, plant leaves, and various optional materials.
