Nutrient Agar Powder, 100g - General Purpose Growth Medium - Innovating Science

This 100g bottle contains dehydrated nutrient agar in powdered form, with an open mouth for scooping. Each bottle prepares 4 liters of growth medium. To prepare, mix 23g of medium with 1 liter of deionized water and bring to a boil while stirring until completely dissolved, then pour into petri dishes or culture tubes and allow the medium to cool and harden. Nutrient agar is a general purpose medium supporting a wide range of bacteria and some fungi. It is not selective, which suits environmental swabbing to determine relative amounts of micro-organisms present, colony morphology observation, streak plate technique, aseptic transfer, and antimicrobial disc testing. Supplied dehydrated, the medium keeps considerably longer than prepared plates. The 4 liter yield covers roughly 200 standard petri dishes depending on pour depth. A Safety Data Sheet is included, and sterilization equipment and standard aseptic technique are required.
