This Sucrose and Sulfuric Acid demonstration kit produces an intense reaction between sucrose and concentrated sulfuric acid, generating large quantities of black foam, steam, and smoke through a complete dehydration process. The reaction equation is C12H22O11(s) + H2SO4(aq) + 1/2 O2(g) → 11C(s) + CO2(g) + 12H2O(g) + SO2(g).
Must be used under a fume hood with safety goggles, face shield, apron, and gloves. Includes instructions and safety data sheet. Provides a powerful visual lesson on dehydration chemistry. For laboratory use only. Not for food, drug, or household use.
