Forming Red, White and Blue Double Replacement Reaction Demonstration Kit

This Forming Red, White and Blue kit introduces students to multiple chemical reaction types in a patriotic demonstration. Students observe a complex ion formation reaction (Fe³⁺ + thiocyanate, also useful for teaching reversible reactions and Le Chatelier's Principle), a double replacement reaction (FeCl₃ + AgNO₃ forming insoluble AgCl), and Prussian Blue formation. Materials sufficient for 7 demonstrations. The kit includes 30mL of 1.0M iron (III) chloride, 140mL of 0.1M silver nitrate, 140mL of 0.1M potassium ferrocyanide, and 140mL of 0.002M potassium thiocyanate.
