Density of Liquids Color Column Chemistry Demonstration Kit

This Innovating Science color column demo kit demonstrates the density of liquids by combining liquids with differing densities to form a density gradient, resulting in a layered, multi-colored column in an included graduated cylinder. The liquids provided are glucose syrup, liquid detergent, vegetable oil, and ethyl alcohol. The kit also includes an optional investigation for studying the relative density of small, solid objects by dropping them into the density column. Instructions and a safety data sheet (SDS) packet are included for product information and handling procedures. The kit is suitable for students aged 13 and older with adult supervision. It meets the requirements for Department of Transportation (DOT) small quantity exemption 173.4 and conforms to 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.4 for domestic highway or rail transport only. Materials included are: glucose syrup (450.0 mL), liquid detergent (400.0 mL), vegetable oil (400.0 mL), ethyl alcohol (400.0 mL), blue food coloring (25.0 mL), red food coloring (25.0 mL), one graduated cylinder, five plastic cups, and an instructions and SDS packet.
