Detergents and the Environment Chemistry Kit

This Detergents and the Environment kit allows students to study the consequences of cultural-nutrient overloading on aquatic environments and identify less environmentally impactful alternatives for consumer chemical products. Activities demonstrate and monitor the effects of two detergent builders on natural water samples for visual comparison of impacts on aquatic organisms. Materials sufficient for 15 groups. The kit includes 50mL phosphate builder (10% sodium phosphate) solution, 2 x 25mL non-phosphate builder (15% sodium silicate) solution, 50mL deionized water control, 45 plastic cups, 1 box of microscope slides, and 1 box of coverslips.
