Environmental Chemistry Water Treatment and Filtration Small Group Learning Kit

This environmental chemistry kit allows students to simulate water treatment plant processes on a small scale. Students prepare polluted water, then perform treatment steps including coagulation, sedimentation, and filtration, observing changes in water clarity, color, and odor at each stage. The kit includes fine sand, coarse sand, fine gravel, activated charcoal, potassium aluminum sulfate (alum), calcium oxide (lime), kaolin clay powder, green food coloring, white vinegar, plastic cups, and stirring sticks. A teacher's manual, student worksheets, and safety data sheets are included. Materials are sufficient for 5 student groups. Required materials not included: a 1-2 liter container, materials for simulating polluted water (potting soil, lawn clippings, leaves), and a sharp item for poking drainage holes. Suitable for classroom, distance learning, and home school use.
