Soil Microbial Activity Kit

This kit provides materials for 8 groups to model carbon dioxide production associated with microorganisms in soil, using controlled sugar concentrations and an indicator response. Students relate observed gas production to microbial respiration and the movement of carbon through biologically active soil. The kit includes bromothymol blue pH indicator, soil, premeasured sugar QuickSolutions at three concentrations, containers, bags, plastic reservoirs, spoons, cups, pipettes, and bromothymol blue pH color charts.
