This Bell in Vacuum Experiment apparatus demonstrates that sound waves require a medium to travel through. As air is removed from the bell jar, the sound of an internal buzzer becomes proportionately fainter. The set includes an acrylic bell jar (10 inches tall, 5.7 inches in diameter), a rubber stopper fitted with lead plugs, and an electric buzzer.
A vacuum plate, vacuum pump, and 3-6V DC power source are required but not supplied. Suitable for physics classroom demonstrations of sound wave properties and the nature of mechanical waves.
