Dulong & Petit Absolute Expansion of Mercury Apparatus

This Dulong and Petit apparatus is designed for determining the coefficient of absolute expansion of mercury. Two vertical glass limbs are enclosed within glass jackets measuring approximately 460 x 25mm, each closed with bungs and fitted with inlet and outlet tubes for circulating hot or cold water. The upper ends of the vertical limbs angle outward on emergence from the jackets to form two short, adjacent limbs positioned against a silvered glass scale graduated 0 to 12 cm at 1mm intervals. The assembly is mounted on a stand and is supplied without mercury. A classical apparatus for advanced physics laboratories investigating thermal expansion.
