Gold Leaf Electroscope

This gold leaf electroscope detects the presence of and measures the magnitude of static electric charge. A charge is induced or conducted through the metal plate on top of the device, causing the gold leaf mounted on the central rod to deflect due to Coulomb repulsion. The electroscope features anodized aluminum walls mounted on a plastic base, with a front glass window that slides up to allow insertion of ionizing material into the chamber. A transparent scale inside the chamber measures the deflection of the gold leaf. The unit includes two gold leaf sheets, detailed instructions with troubleshooting tips, and is fitted with a 4mm socket. The assembled electroscope measures 6.5" x 3.75" x 2.75". Note: the gold leaf does not come pre-attached; attachment instructions are included in the manual.
