This raw phyllite specimen is a metamorphic rock that demonstrates low-grade metamorphism from an easily recognizable parent rock (slate). Phyllite retains the fissile property of slate but has attained a glossy sheen and soapy feel more indicative of metamorphic material. Each specimen measures approximately 1 inch in length, with slight variation in shape, size, and color. Each specimen is hand-selected and processed by a geologist in Victor, NY, individually packaged in a transparent labeled and barcoded bag.
